Check The Egypt Travel Guide

A visit to Egypt is not complete without a half-day visit to the Giza Plateau, home of the Great Pyramids, Sphinx, and the Museum of the Sun Ship. Located on the edge of the desert about 30 minutes from downtown Cairo, this most visited destination remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.

The Great Pyramid was built by Khufu, the second pharaoh of the 4th Dynasty, around 2589-2566 BC. Also known as the Cheops of the Greeks, this ruler left his mark on history building one of the greatest engineering feats known to man. You can get the amazing Egypt family tours and family tours packages online with a discount to enjoy your time.

Visitors are allowed to ascend to the Great Pyramid, along a path uphill from narrow passageways and stone tunnels that lead to the burial chamber in the center of the structure. This attraction is considered labor-intensive if you wish to enter the structure and is aimed at travelers who are physically fit while on holiday in Egypt. Taking photos indoors is prohibited and strictly monitored.

Nearby stands the majestic Sphinx, the half-man, half-lion structure that predates the construction of the Great Pyramid. Although the indoor camera is not open to the public, you can visit the Sphinx up close and personal from its base and take photos freely.

A few steps from the mighty Sphinx is the Sun Boat Museum, the royal barge house owned by Pharaoh Khufu. This ship was accidentally discovered under the desert of Giza and proved to be a valuable source of information about the owner of the kingdom and daily life during the reign of the Pharaohs.
